CalliGRAFFiti Exhibition Jul 1 - Aug 15

Exploring the affinities between East Asian calligraphy and graffiti, this project involves my collaboration with graffiti writers Amend, Apex, Coby Kennedy, Denz, Desi W.O.M.E, Lucha, Meow, Zen, and Toons. The exhibitition features a 16-foot "Exquisite Corpse" mural, Chinese scrolls, and a series of collaborative paintings and sculptures.

CalliGRAFFiti Headlands Residency

Experimentation+Discovery+Collaboration Stages

In process and experimental pieces created while in residence with Apex (Ricardo Richey) at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, California in 2007 and in the months leading up to the exhibition.

The CalliGRAFFiti Project

CalliGRAFFi is a collaborative exploration between myself and graff writer Ricardo Richie "Apex" into parallels between East Asian calligraphy and urban American graffiti. We will be in residency at the Headland's Center for the Arts Project Space in November 2007.

Shown here are juxtapositions of some of our work leading up to this project. The large and small pieces by Ricardo that are his explorations of graff-inspired word forms. I have included a few pieces from a series called "Flash," which are inspired by graffiti tags that I have re-interpreted using traditional East Asian techniques and materials.
